This page provides a complete reference for all configuration parameters used when connecting RisingWave to Apache Iceberg tables via the WITH
clause of a CREATE SOURCE
statement.
Syntax
CREATE SOURCE [IF NOT EXISTS] source_name

You don’t need to specify the column names for the Iceberg source, as RisingWave can derive them from the Iceberg table metadata directly. Use the DESCRIBE statement to view the column names and data types.

Storage configuration (S3-compatible)
To integrate RisingWave with Iceberg tables stored in S3-compatible object storage, you must provide the necessary connection details. These configurations tell RisingWave exactly where your data warehouse resides and how to authenticate and access it.
Basic connection
These parameters configure the connection to the underlying S3-compatible storage system where the Iceberg data files are stored. This includes AWS S3, MinIO, and other compatible services.

Use Amazon S3 Tables with the Iceberg source
You can configure the RisingWave Iceberg source connector to read data from Iceberg tables managed by Amazon S3 Tables. This allows you to ingest data into RisingWave directly from tables registered in your S3 Tables catalog.
To set this up, specify connector = 'iceberg'
and catalog.type = 'rest'
within your CREATE SOURCE
statement. You must also include the necessary parameters for SigV4 authentication against the S3 Tables REST API.
Required REST Catalog parameters for S3 Tables:
While these parameters might be optional in general Iceberg source configurations, they are required when catalog.type = 'rest'
is used to connect to Amazon S3 Tables:

Once created, RisingWave will use this source to read data from the specified Iceberg table, leveraging Amazon S3 Tables for metadata discovery.

These parameters configure the connection to the underlying GCS storage system where the Iceberg data files are stored.

Catalog configuration
These parameters configure the Iceberg catalog. The catalog is responsible for managing table metadata (schema, partitioning, location). RisingWave supports several catalog types.

Time travel
RisingWave supports querying historical data from Iceberg tables (time travel). You can query data as of a specific timestamp or snapshot ID.

RisingWave offers system tables for querying Iceberg metadata:

: Contains information about the current data files of the Iceberg table.

: Contains information about all snapshots of the Iceberg table.
